Comments Second live aboard (Palau Aggressor was the first.) Great experience both times. What's evident is that the Aggressor fleet has taken safety seriously and absolutely DRILLS it into their crew and into their processes. I was particularly interested in the safety briefing, which was very thorough and checked every item on my list. The night watchman really was up all night, working on different parts of the boat, but making his rounds.

The crew was very attentive for the most part and absolutely worked their butts off all week, as all live aboard crews do. Helpful getting in/out of the boat, working on equipment issues, etc. Very knowledgeable and experienced.

The captain, Jonathan, is a particularly impressive leader. He's always teaching, drilling, and developing his crew. Because of that, they'll follow him to the end of the earth, and they're very good at executing their various processes done in the normal course of diving. I've been around the business world a bit in my life, and Jonathan is an exceptional leader.

The rooms are pretty small. My dive buddy and I had to take turns being upright in the cabin. Not 100% convenient, but after 12 hours, we had it worked out. Our room had a full bunk on the bottom and a half bunk on the top.

The boat itself is very well designed and laid out. Hat's off to them for that.

There was a bit of variability in the crew as it came to actually leading dives. My sense is that a couple of them assumed that live aboard divers didn't really need a leader, so they did their thing with the camera, etc. Some made a point of providing a leader role in the dives (which was optional) which quite frankly, I prefer. Visibility due to weather was't great at times and it wasn't easy to find the boat on return.

First day of diving wasn't good due to weather but the rest of the week was awesome. We did two night shark dives that made the entire trip worth it. Nurse and reef sharks were hunting and it was pretty frenzied. I never felt unsafe. In fact, I let the air out of my BCD and knelt on the ocean floor while sharks swarmed all around me. It unnerved my dive buddy a little, but it was a fabulous experience.

I've been trying to get my dive group to take a live aboard for about 10 years. One of them went with me on this trip and he's a hard "yes" on live aboard in the future! I may not do any land based diving again as a result. If he can't go, I'm confident that going by myself would be fine. We had 4 singles on this boat and everybody got along....just as they did in Palau.
