Comments We stayed 2 weeks and this was our second visit to Grand Turk. Osprey Beach has good food, good service, and you cannot beat the barbecue on Sunday and Wednesday and the dancing to Mitch and High Tide on those nights. Not to be missed.
There are rooms on the beach, but we wanted to save money, so for the second year we stayed at the Osprey atrium on the second floor facing Duke street. There are no phones(who wants one here) or tv(who needs one here, isnt this why we come here) or kitchen in the atrium(but there is a fridge for the beer). We brought our own coffee maker since Michael's restaurant below us is quite expensive.
Each night we sat outside on the atrium balconey, listened to reggae, drank beer , answered email from our children and waved at the people walking by. It is certainly no burden to stay at the atrium and it is less expensive. Cant say enough good things about the Osprey.
On Friday night, the Salt Raker is the place, with High Tide and dancing with many of the locals. Dont miss it.
For lunch, we ate mostly at the Sand Bar, best hamburgers and fried food on the island, except for fried chicken. The Poop Deck is the place to get fried chicken that makes you forget how your Momma made it. Just be there in time or there will be no chicken for you.
We dove with Blue Water Divers. Again, it was a delight. Mitch is great to dive with and Monica keeps it all organized. You feel like you are diving with old friends. We saw healthy coral, a school of dolphin, heard the whales(didnt see any under water, damn), saw a single shark, spotted ray, many many small fish(including a quilled blenny), quite a few grouper, lobster, large crabs, eels, and a lion fish. I know the lion fish shouldnt be there, but to be at 80 feet, and see an animal that is on the wrong side of the world is pretty exciting. It was a mature, large lion fish. Mitch's minions took care of it appropriately after the dive was over.
We also did a snorkel trip to Gibbs Cay with Smitty and can recomend that as well. Smitty cooked up some barbecue and we had some rum punch. Saw sting rays and a small shark was seen as well.
If you love to dive,be with friendly people, dance, listen to rock and roll and reggae played by a rip-saw band, and enjoy laid back Caribbean sites, this is place to be.
