Comments In Mar 2022, it was still a bit difficult (due to COVID pandemic) to get entry into many countries with dive destinations. To enter Grand Turk, we had to purchase additional Government mandated medical insurance, even though we have good medical coverage. Also required were negative COVID test results.
Bohio Resort is a nice looking resort property on a quiet beachfront, north of Cockburn town. The accommodations are very basic but clean and with nice ocean views. The waters are beautiful shades of aqua, teal, and blue. The dive package that we purchased included breakfast and lunch. The food is very good, the service is very slow. We had dinner here a couple of times, but it is quite pricey. There are some other options for dinner on island, besides those in Cockburn town, which are small local kitchens that serve up some great food. They can be hard to find, many are not open every day, and many close early by 7pm. There are bicycles at the resort that you can borrow to cruise around the island. They won’t let you use them at and after sunset (which is around 6:30pm) though, so if you go elsewhere for dinner, plan on walking or getting a taxi. The island is so small that a taxi ride might take 5minutes, but you’ll be waiting awhile to get it, so we opted to walk.
Some of our luggage got delayed 1 day from Provo (via Intercaribbean Airways- flights were included in Bohio package), as the weight limits for the planes are restrictive for passengers as they prioritize cargo over luggage going to Grand Turk. The dive package only includes 10 dives for a week’s stay (no afternoon or evening dives), and there’s not much to do in the afternoon. The divemasters here are all contracted by the resort, depending on how busy the resort is. We had 3 different divemasters over 10 dives, and they all had different dive styles. We enjoyed diving with one, while another one was more interested in shooting photos with his GoPro than paying attention to divers. They hunt the lionfish routinely, so the bigger fish including groupers and barracudas come looking for some handouts.
Unfortunately, over the course of the dive week, what we noticed was that was a lot of coral damage and unhealthy corals. Though we saw an array of reef life, it was not abundant – trunkfish, squirrelfish, hamlets, filefish, butterflyfish, cowfish, grunts, sailors choice, queen and French angels, some stingrays, flounder, several reef sharks, some barracuda, spotted drumfish, a couple of young hawksbill turtles, a lot of flamingo tongues on soft corals, some isopods on soldierfish and other fish.
When I returned home from this trip and downloaded my underwater photographs, I compared them to those I took 10years ago when we dived here. My pictures confirmed how much the reef system had degraded over the last 10 years. Grand Turk is a cute island that’s nice to visit once. But in my opinion it’s a better beach experience than a dive experience.

UW Photo Comments there was a rinse tank for cameras onshore but they didn't enforce keeping it for cameras so other gear ended up in it. They didn't change the water often either.
