Comments Visited Bohio in April, 2014 with my daughter who got open-water certified there. What a lovely experience. Owner's of Bohio, Tom and Ginny and their first class chef, Eurica, and staff, are fabulous.
Yes, accomodations are pretty basic, but we had no complaints. Do agree with other divers that upstairs is better (quiter). There is a nearby store to buy snacks and beers (reasonably priced). The food is fantastic! You must try Eurica's key lime pie (the best ever), Sunday night burgers (the old fashioned way - so delicious) Saturday night BBQ with fantabulous salads and of course, anything deep fried like fish or onion rings. Ike and Donkey bar is home, the pot-cakes made us feel like we were at home, the donkeys were always a surprise, Rose and Dahlia, JC, Jesse, John-Luc and all the staff were lovely, the gorgeous beach, music, the trade-winds, the beautiful sunsets...and maybe most of all, diving with Ollie, were quite memorable. Diving was comfortable at about 5-10 minutes from shore off a little skiff. Read the Island Dive Guide (available at the dive area) and you'll know which locations to ask for. There was a lot of nurse shark activity at 35 feet, a plethora of garden eels at Black Forest, Hawkesbill Turtles & Green Turtles(big and beautiful), friendy Nassau Groupers at Coral Garden, burrfish, honey-comb cowfish and scrawled filefish at the Arches, back to Black Forest where we hit pay-dirt and had an amazing dolphin encounter (really!). They came in fast at about 35 feet, checked us out from about ten yards away, circled, repeated and then took off. OMG it was a thrill to be looking one right in the eye. I rolled over to see the underbelly as he/she sped away. (How lucky was my daughter with only 8 dives under her belt to experience this!!!) Good news. very few lionfish although we did see a giant one. Saw a few firsts on an excellent night dive with Ollie at the Library...slipper lobster, star basket and tiger sea cucumber amongst other great sights like huge crabs, huge banded shrimp, blue crabs and red lobsters and beautiful coral polyps open and ready to dine. It was great! And on a blood-moon night to boot!!! Very relaxing, and hope to visit again. Thanks Bohio!
