Comments I used Flamingo Divers about 6 months ago ( see previous report ) and was so happy with the operation that I used them again this November. I received the same excellent service on the 2nd trip. The owners, Mickey and Jane, run the entire operation. Jane picks you up from your hotel on time, Mickey assembles gear and drives the boat, and they split leading the dives. They remembered me from my previous trip and I was treated like an experienced diver. They assembled my gear on the seat next to the stern, I was the first person in the water, and the last one out of the water at the end of the dive. No problem. I was allowed to stay down as long as I wished and I while I did follow their lead underwater, it was no problem if I strayed away a little or lagged behind. They are professional and also friendly people that are good to talk to on the boat. They pick good dive sites and work had to make sure that you are happy with the diving and service. One thing that I particularly like is the small group size of 8 max. We only had 5 people on the boat, which meant that we were loaded and on our way before the other operators, were the first ones to the sites, and no crowds underwater. I will use Flamingo Divers again on my next trip.
On my previous trip we dove West Caicos. This time, due to the wind/tides, we dove Sandborne Channel and Northwest point. The good news is that Provo still has good fish life. We saw reef sharks, eagle rays, lots of grouper, barracuda, and a dolphin. The bad news is that a lot of the coral and sponges have been covered with sand and silt from the recent hurricane season. The coral on the walls are pretty good, but the coral in the shallow areas have declined since my previous visit.
Our accommodations were the Royal West Indies. We have stayed as this resort 3 times. It is a good mid priced resort. The rooms are not luxurious, but are very clean, modern, and have a small kitchenette. The resort grounds are very nice with nice landscaping and 2 small pools. We never had any trouble finding a chair that had shade. The on site restaurant, Mango Reef, had good food and good service if you do not whish to go out. The only thing to note is that on one side of the resort is the Club Med. I never heard any noise but a few people that we talked to mentioned that they could hear noise from the disco. If you pick this resort, you may wish to ask for a room on the other side of the resort.
