Comments I’m just back from a short but very nice trip to Grand Turk. We stayed at the Osprey Beach Hotel and dove with Smitty who owns Grand Turk Divers. I highly recommend both of these operations. The hotel is basic but clean. A/C in every room. No TV on the island still (nice). It’s very nice compared to the other options. The island is VERY quiet and so the OBH was the one hotel that had any life. The food there was excellent. They have a nice bar which is poolside. Wi-Fi is slow but works. The hotel is <5 minutes from the airport. Breakfast is at Michael’s Atrium Café across the street. Michael is also very friendly. His food – quite good. The Sand Bar is a 1 minute walk from the hotel. It is not always open, but a nice alternative from the Bird Cage bar at the hotel.

GT Divers is right across the street. Smitty and his team are very nice. Their boat holds probably 6 but we were usually just 2-4 divers. The boat is beached directly in front of the hotel. Boat rides are VERY short (3-10 minutes) as the wall is just off the beach. Walk out of your room onto the beach. Get in the boat. Go dive. The water is FLAT.

Smitty was perfect for us. It’s more like diving with a friend as you’re responsible for your own gear. He is the only one in the boat so he’s busy with that and also leads the dive. He mostly followed us around after giving a general briefing of the dive profile. He’s a quiet, gentle man who does not look the part. He know the dive sites well. All the dives are wall dives. The water was calm with no current. We did see a 9’ hammerhead (came within 8ft of us), several dolphins, turtles, etc. Not one eel. Nice coral though. One seahorse! Each dive we came across a Lion Fish. They are taking over but very pretty. All surface intervals are done at the hotel. 9am dive, 11:30 dive, 2:30 dive.

There are two other diver operators within a stone’s throw of the OBH. Oasis and ??. GT Divers is a smaller operation. They are all small though - using the same boats. We met others who love Oasis so that may be an option.

There is VERY little shopping on this island. Bring what you need. You don’t need much. Enjoy.
