Comments East Bay resort is in transition. Later this year (2023) it will be renovated into a high-end resort with expanded restaurants, multiple pools with saunas and a large dive shop. The current plans are to reopen in 2024 under a new name "Saltera" managed by Marriott. Diving will continue to be operated by Reef Divers.

The rooms were well appointed, with full kitchen, comfortable beds, lots of hot water and multiple air conditioners. The TV cable reception via land relays was poor at times, and was subject to weather conditions. Digicel is the local provider and offered a few standard US channels (MSNBC, CNN, History, etc.) Cell reception for AT&T was good the entire time - passing data was also fast on a $10/day international plan.

The resort has less than 20 people the time we were there, when clearly it could hold 10x that many. The food was plentiful if a bit repetitous, but you could order from a menu if you wanted more variety.
The dive boat was a 44' made-for-diving single deck with room for 20 divers, twin John Deere deisels, in good shape and well designed.

All the dive spots were less than 20 minutes from the dock. In each spot, the corals were plentiful, and we always spotted large rays rooting in the sand, Green Morays, and a squadron of three or four Spotted Manta rays and sharks cruising past.

Two dive masters had taken vacation over Christmas and both decided not to return, leaving the resort with a single dive master (Ethan) who did his job well. Unfortunately, Ethan became ill with sinusitis and tonsilitis, and the last three dive days were cancelled. The resort gave us credit for the lost days at any of their other properties. Reef Divers explained they were limited in replacing the dive master from their Caribbean operations due to work permit paperwork.

We enjoyed the trip, the diving, the friendly people, and the great weather, and will come back to spend Marriot points when the new resort opens next year.
