Cup o’ Joe CEO Wayne said there were a few spots left on this trip, so I got a Covid test and sent money! We missed one day of diving because of Hurricane Laura, stayed safe in the Cove. The corals had recovered about 40% (my eyeball estimate) since the bleaching of 2019. We dived Eel Garden and Driveway sites, then headed to West Caicos for Boat Cove, Spanish Anchor, and Gullies. Then we returned to North Caicos for the Dome, Amphitheater, Shark Hotel, and Two-Step. At Two-Step, I found 2 coral tags marking corals that had been treated for Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease by Turks and Caicos Coral Reef Fund. The treatment seems to work! I hope it can be scaled up. Saw an octopus at Two-Step. I did REEF surveys at several of the dive sites. I was disappointed that some species that should be abundant, such as bar jacks, blue-stripe grunts, blue chromis, mahogany snappers, were present in smaller numbers than I expected. Coral health is very important. As Aggressor promises, the accommodations, diver operations, and food were top-notch. |
