There's a Cockroach in My Regulator in time for Christmas:  December 14, 2010

Our new 240-page book is selling fast. It's the best of the unusual, entertaining and jaw-dropping true stories Undercurrent has published during the past 35 years: like the stingray that gave a diver a hickey, an exploding tank that yielded $150,000 of cannabis, and what happens when buddy couples fighting with each other. We'll send yours in time for Christmas if you order by December 15. Go to Undercurrent and click on "Editor's Book Pick of the Month" for details and to order online. Or, for expedited delivery, go directly to Amazon.com. It's also available in Kindle.

Dive all of Cocos famous cites, while helping photograph the expedition, capturing sea turtles underwater, and (if you wish) tagging hammerheads! A fantastic 10-day trip aboard the UnderSea Hunter’s 130-foot research yacht, the MV Argo, offering spacious staterooms, fantastic divemasters and crew, and great food. The Argo will be carrying the Deep Sea submersible, providing deep diving exploration opportunities. The all inclusive cost once in Costa Rica is $5,640 (and should be tax-deductible). Mention Undercurrent and get a free Turtle Island Cap and membership. Got an Old Dive Watch in Your Drawer:  December 14, 2010

One aging diver did and last month listed his vintage Rolex Submariner Ref 5510, the kind that Sean Connery wore in the early Bond films, with an opening price of $9.95. "This watch was worn by me at the Navy Exchange on Kwajalein Atoll in 1958. . . . it has served me well, but Father Time having caught up with me, I no longer dive. For the last several years it has been sitting in a dresser drawer, and now it's time for somebody else to take it over ... Here's your chance to pick up a rare iconic timepiece." By the time the bidding was over, it sold for $66,100.

Sharks Gone Wild:  December 14, 2010

In the space of a week in early December, sharks off Egypt's Sharm el Sheikh killed one person and maimed four others. Officials responded by hunting down every shark they could find, until American scientists, including George Burgess, who heads the Florida based International Shark Attack File, were flown in. They found that a single oceanic whitetip was responsible for the death and one other attack, while one or more mako sharks made the other attacks. A mako responsible for one attack was killed, but at least three other innocent sharks were killed in a panicked attempt to end the threat to the tourist trade. No one is certain why the sharks attacked, but high on the list of speculation is illegal chumming for sharks by unscrupulous tour and dive operators. Scuba diving is banned until December14, at which time divers with more than 50 logged dives can get back into the water.
