Coral Reef Adventure

See Tahiti shark diving and Tiputi Pass first hand in the new IMAX film, Coral Reef Adventure, filmed by Howard and Michelle Hall. It's a thrilling ride, indeed, in stiff current through scores of sharks, and the spectacular IMAX filming puts you right in the middle of the action.

Hoping to raise awareness of the plight of coral reefs, Coral Reef Adventure follows the Halls as they document the health and beauty of Australia's Great Barrier Reef and the deep ocean corals of Fiji, with plenty of critter shots. Howard getting bent after diving below 300 feet and Michelle opening her heart and mouth to cleaner shrimp add adventure and humor to their tale.

Because of the emphasis on coral bleaching and reef destruction, one walks away knowing something must be done. But what? The film offers no answers. Perhaps because the answer is truly political. And films like these, never wishing to offend, avoid the political.

But if you want to do something about our beloved reefs, you must speak up. Write a letter to your President, George W. Bush. Tell him there is no greater threat to our oceans than global warming. Tell him most other nations want to do something about it and it's time the United States did too. After all, we contribute far more than our share to the causes of global warming, but contribute far less than our share to the solution. The Halls' Coral Reef Adventure is a call to action for divers. A small, but important, step you can take is to write the White House.
