Comments Akumal Dive Center: Great dive operation with friendly helpful staff. Dive times 09:30, 11:0o, 14:30 and night(when enough divers. Took divers out regardless of 2 or 10 with experienced guides to lead. They did a superb job of pointing out the big and small creatures. Dive sites were all colorful and healthy since the last time we were there in 2009. The Dives lasted from 45 to 60 minutes depending on depth any where from 100 to 40 ft. Good variety of sea life to view.
Hacienda De La Tortuga: Privately owned condos. Well maintained and clean and air conditioned, which we didn't need. Within walking distance of dive operations and restaurants. Backs up to Half Moon Bay, which is great place to snorkel and sunbath.
Downside: Akumal Bay wants everyone to wear snorkel vest and pay for guides. Great for the ecology and the pocket book... The number of tourists were three times the numbers we saw in 2009. Becoming increasingly popular.
