Comments | We decided to book with Aldora based on previous reviews here on Undercurrent. Purpose of the trip was to get wet and blow bubbles. No real expectations for epic diving, as we have been to Coz several times before, and we knew beforehand that the southern areas of the island have been closed for research into the hard coral deaths. Our weather for the first few days was wind from the NW which made the diving problematic. Rough water, lower viz, and surface intervals stuck sitting on the boat instead of heading up onto a beach. Later in the week, we got an east wind which turned things back to normal, resulting in excellent viz, smooth boat rides, and pleasant surface intervals at beach clubs. On the calm days, Aldora picked us up and dropped us off at the dock in front of Villa Aldora. Very convenient if you are staying there, and they also drop off at other spots for non-villa guests. Aldora specializes in "advanced" or "experienced" diving. We did not do anything advanced on any of our dive days, but that may be due to the conditions. All our dives were down south just above the closed area. All drift dives in moderate current. Slow & pleasant diving, no drama. What sets Aldora apart is that they use high pressure (3600psi) steel 100's and 120's. I was coming up with 1800 psi in my 100cf tank after 75 minutes! So plan on 2 long dives and a return to docks at 2pm. A full day! One thing to note: You must cancel by 7pm the night before or you will be charged for the day, no cancelling the morning of diving, even if the weather is nasty. If the boats cannot go out, they will not charge you. Seen: Eagle Rays, Nurse Sharks, Stingrays, Turtles, Large Groupers, Jawfish, lots of cowfish, and lots of filefish, as well as all the usuals. | ||
