Comments We have been going to Cozumel for over 30 years. On our first visit, cruise ships were never going to happen. We were not yet scuba divers, but avid free divers. Since then we have been coming on and off every year for the past ten years.

We normally travel with a group of 4 to 6 friends, ranging in age from 14 to 70. This year was a bit different, we were on our own. Cozumel was our first overseas trip since the pandemic began.

We stayed at the Casa Mexicana, next door to the Vista del Mar our usual haunt. It's a bit fancier and has a great breakfast. It is no longer a buffet, now you order what you want. If you have an early morning dive you can order the day before.

The rooms are good sized and have a refrigerator to keep your beer cold and close at hand. Staff are both friendly and helpfull.

The Aldora boats load at the pier closest to the hotel, less of a walk than before. We managed to get in a breakfast and get to the boat on time.

After the first dive we would take a break at Playa Palancar. Besides great food there are pygmy raccoons and coatis providing entertwinment.

Nitrox mixes are calibrated to your dives, 32% in the morning, 36% in the afternoon. They definitely cater to your dive profiles.

We love Cozumel, great diving, friendly people and once you get away from the cruise ships, great food.

As far as COVID, locals wear masks, before you enter a shop, they spritz your hands with sanitizer an take your temperature.

The only people ignoring mask mandates are, you guessed it, Americans.
