Comments Glad to have somewhere to dive after Covid. The trip down and back were to Cancun, taxi to Playa, and ferry to Coz. Not the most convenient, but we're Delta frequent flyers. As always, Villa Aldora was welcoming and is ready to help with any need. Betsy, the manager, was more than accommodating. Aldora Divers always provides an outstanding experience. They made sure it grouped divers with like needs on each boat. My wife and I hadn't dived for 2 years (like many), and I had contracted Covid with some mild long-haul symptoms (including lung problems), so my doctor was not thrilled with me diving and suggested caution. We were on boats with other divers with similar characteristics and the dive masters (Paloma and Miguel) were both watchful and helpful. They didn't over-manage our dives, but they made sure we were doing OK. We both struggled a bit with the current, since our bouyancy control wasn't as good as it could have been after a couple of years' layoff. As usual, Cozumel has some very nice reefs (Palancar Wall, Horseshoe; Santa Rosa Wall, and Delilah to name a few) with several turtles, a couple of sharks, quite a few Southern Sting Rays, crabs and lobsters galore, and abundant varieties of fish. However, I had been told that the Covid hiatus had resulted in a lot more sea life and less divers at Cozumel. I didn't see it. Because Aldora makes a point of early trips, the first dives were usually pretty calm, but by the second dive, the armada had descended. Nevertheless, it was great to be underwater again. We ate at El Moro, our absolute favorite, several times and enjoyed Ray's hospitality (not to mention the fish filet en papillote). Thanks to Cozumel for opening up. The locals clearly take Covid seriously, and masks and distancing were de rigeur. One tip: watch out for car rental agencies signing you up to have them fill the gas when you turn in the car. Very expensive and not really highlighted when renting.

UW Photo Comments Aldora provides a fresh water bucket, which can hold one or two small cameras or one big one. I didn't use it, but rinsed my gear when I returned to the Villa (which does have good facilities for rinsing and drying cameras and other gear).
