Comments Having been to Cozumel many times, we knew exactly what we'd find. We've been eating at restaurants at the local food mercado at Avenida 25 for years; this is the first time we've seen ANY other U.S. or Canadian divers there, eh? Apparently, the mercado has finally found its way into several guidebooks, including Fodor's. It's probably listed under things for the adventurous tourist to do. At Tres Hermanas (I think that's the name of the place), my wife and I had a lunch of huevos rancheros for her, and menudo (tripe soup) and Yucatecan-style pork for me. Plus a drink for her and a banana liquado for me, all for the princely sum of $9 U.S. and all delicious.
We also like La Morena on Avenida 10 (the conch fried with coconut batter is especially good)and the fairly new Argentine restaurant at the corner of Calle 3 and Avenida 5. I had a large portion of perfectly grilled mollejas (calf's sweetbreads) for the rediculous sum of 90 pesos---about $7 U.S. Good sangria, and a small selection of good Argentine wines.
The Cozumel economy has been hard hit during 2011, so bargaining for jewelry, clothing, etc. was easier than ever. WARNING---MANY STORES ALONG THE MAIN DRAG OF AVENIDA MELGAR ARE SELLING SYNTHETIC GEMSTONES. BE CAREFUL! They will quote a high price for Mexican Fire Opal, Tanzanite, etc., and then will "allow" themselves to be bargained down to a fraction of that price. Touch of Gold and Opals Mine are both reputable jewelry stores. The people at Opals Mine will be happy to show you the difference between synthetic and real gemstones (we received that info at Amsterdam Sauer and H. Stern's world headquarters in Rio while celebrating our 40th anniversary in Rio last March. Caveat emptor!

Enforced diving restrictions Diving with Aldora is always a treat. Best boats, best staff. Dove with Liang, who is always superb with briefings, finding small stuff, etc.
At San Juan, saw several huge schools of fish, turtles, and a large eagle ray. I'd never dive with any other dive shop on Cozumel. Aldora is the best!
Liveaboard? no Nitrox Available? yes
