Comments Aldora is basically a good operation but based on past reviews they are slipping a bit. We dove with them in December 2012 and again in March 2013. They dive big steel tanks which on the deeper diving in Cozumel gives nice long dives. They do have nitrox and are very helpful with setting up and gear logistics. The problems we had were all scheduling and gear being on the boat type nothing with the dives or safety at all. In that area they are really good as we're all of the divemasters and captains. The problems we faced several times were having them show up and/ or confirm a trip. They want you to go the shop downtown before the first dive to get the equipment and paperwork done. It's not always convenient to do that since the shop is not open all day just morning and late afternoon. If you call hours they aren't open no one answers the phone. We had two occasions where we were supposed to dive and couldn't confirm and no one came for us. Another time two people in our group were supposed to get wetsuits and they never got to the boat so no dives for them, I would recommend them but advise to make sure when you book to find out when you can call them ( or better yet get Meemo's cell #) make sure when you confirm the night before you have then repeat back to you the gear you are getting, size of tanks, air or nitrox, and where they are picking you up. Also each time you speak with them confirm all the rest of the dives for your trip. We missed a dive because they say we weren't on the schedule. Later found out a boat was overbooked. All of the divemasters were great, Allie was exceptional.
The diving in Cozumel was top notch but not really geared for new divers. Since they are led dives a new diver would be perfectly safe but might get nervous with the depth and some of the many swim thrus. The coral is amazing and the quality of fish life is great. Saw many eagle rays and nurse sharks and lots of turtles. We also saw too many loin fish. The visibility was fantastic even after a few days of El Norte winds. Everyone should have Cozumel on their diving bucket list.
The occidental grand is a really nice place to stay. Very family friendly and the staff was great. Food and entertainment also very good. The hotel is near most of the top dive sites so the boats will pick you up on the way and save you a long boat ride.
