Comments A group of us, generally from 4 to 6) have been making an annual pilgrimage to Cozumel, generally in late February or early March.

Some of us flew into Cozumel via Houston; others took the nonstop from SFO into Cancun and then taxied to the Ferry in Playa del Carmen. Either way it is a relatively painless flight from the Bay area.

We stay at the Vista del Mar, a small self-described “boutique” hotel on the waterfront. Rooms are neat, clean and relatively large. Includes a Mexican style continental breakfast, rolls, coffee and juice. I usually grab a few yogurts, bananas, etc, at the local supermarket. There are small refrigerators in the rooms.

W have a short walk to the pier where Aldora Divers take off from. We load up and go over our dive plan for the day. We do two dives a day with a long surface interval in between at one of the local beach resorts. Fresh coconuts fish stew, a little sun and we ready or our second dive.

I note that some people have complained that the interval is too long, we tend to do fairly deep dives and they are reasonably long, 60 to 80 minutes, so I prefer a good interval, besides we are on holiday.

Once you get away from the cruise ship hordes, the people are friendly, the food terrific and the diving surprisingly good. Toss in a night dive or two and you have everything you might want from a dive vacation.
