We have been diving with Aquanauts for 5 years now. We LOVE these guys. They are very laid back..but safety conscience. They love the ocean and much as we do, and love their jobs. Both DM's are very good. They are slow in the water...great for me, the photographer, and will point out anything of interest. All the dives are drift dives, some slow, some a little faster, but nothing ripping. Having 1 hour dives is not unusual, we have had 80 minute dives several times. It is all about the experience of the dive and I love it!! In September the water is flat, warm and lots of turtles. More than when we come back in November for our 'dive vacation'. Lion fish are a problem, but you can hunt them, and this is what hubby with do on the dives. If it is just the DM and us, (September can be a very slow time), they will hunt with hubby. There are several dive ops in Puerto Aventuras, but Aquanauts are the only ones that will dive your air/computer. The others are cattle boats and timed dives. You will always come back to the marina for the SIT time and when we come back from the 1st dive, the other dive ops are already out for the 2nd dive, with a ton of people in them. The boat is very nice, shaded and lots of room. There is no fresh water bucket for cameras, but if you ask, they will get one. Since we always come back to the marina for the SIT time, I just rinse my camera at the pier. You can then stay at the boat and people watch or go back to the shop, sit in their chairs outside or in the shade, or order some snacks at the restaurant beside the shop. Your gear can stay at the shop, hang it up, put the rest in bins, and they will bring the stuff in when they close up. They have carts that you use to bring your gear back and forth to and from the boat. No heavy lugging of anything. Just can't say enough how great our experience is with them year after year. Having the same people working there says a lot. Looking forward to our trip in November when we will be doing at least 11 dives, not the 2 we did this time, but we had family with us so we couldn't do all the diving we normally do. Side point about the resort. We stayed in the Barcelo Maya Tropical. Very nice mega resort. Our kids love this place so we have been going with them. The food was very good, the service outstanding. The rooms are better than o.k. but not overly nice. Try and get rooms on the 2nd or 3rd floor. The 1st floor rooms tend to smell very mouldly. |
