Comments Have been diving Coz for 20 years and this operation for quite a few of those, dating back to the La Perla days. The hotel has changed hands several times, somehow always coming out of it a little better. The dive shop was really top notch when Alejandra was the owner, but new owners recently purchased the hotel and dive shop. Their priorities are clearly with the hotel, with much work being done on landscaping and new plants.

The dive shop has retained most of the old divemasters. While this is a good thing, it's probably the only good news -- there are quite a few problems we hadn't experienced before. First, I noticed frequent changes were now normal for the boat assignments each morning. This made for confusing situations most days, along with late boat departures from their pier.

In 2 weeks of diving there, we never got our requested dive master. Dive prices at Blue Angel are 50% higher than they were two years ago. We asked for a discount for multi-day diving, but the new owner would only give us a few bucks off, but only if we skipped the included lunch.

Our tanks, both nitrox and air, were mostly at 2200 - 2600 psi (some even lower), which really limited our bottom times. We asked both the dive shop manager and the divemaster several times for fuller tanks the next day but never received them. So we asked for a small credit for the many days of low tanks, but this was also refused. They gave us a loud and clear "take it or leave it" feeling, certainly not what we're used to from this operation.

Finally, even though we are experienced divers, we most often found ourselves diving with beginners -- some with only a couple of dives. Requests for trips with more experiences divers also were ignored. We ended up going elsewhere for our diving and will no longer recommend or return to Blue Angel.

UW Photo Comments No rinse bucket on any boats. The only option photographers had was to rinse cameras in the wetsuit and regulator rinse tank at the dive shop. My camera and flash got scratched and chipped from people tossing their regulators in on top of it.
