Comments I've been diving for several years in the Caribbean, and have forgotten how great Akumal is until I read some recent reviews of other areas. I have been diving with Tim and Kathrin, owners of Blue Experience Diving for six years now. I enjoy the personal attention and 60 minute dives. Most of the diving in the area is tongue and groove reef diving from 30 to 80 feet. Dive sites are an easy 10 to 20 minutes boat ride away. A simple back roll and your enjoying underwater life.
I dove with them 7 times last February so I'd like to describe them as a composite review. My love of diving is enjoying fish life. In the 7 dives I have not only seen the usual Sargeant Majors, tangs, wrasses, butterflys, and snappers, but trumpets, lions, trunks, cowfish, all types of angels, every kind of parrots, three different files, baracudas, nurse sharks, many different big eyes, jawfish, hogfish, drums and balloons.
You'll also see southern, yellow and eagle rays, Moray and garden eels and lobsters, as well as shrimps and crabs. Did I mention turtles? You'll swim with them on every dive.
The Riviera diving is not as famous as neighbouring Cozumel, but I sure enjoy it.
