Comments We signed up for cenote dives with Juan Carlos based on great reviews on TripAdvisor and were not disappointed. Arranged the dives on the Internet and did not have to leave a deposit. We were picked up promptly at the hotel and were the only 2 divers. It is a hour long drive to the cenotes but the time passed quickly with a description of the cenotes, cavern diving safety and the Yucatan. We did 2 dives at Dos Ojos, both about 60 minutes ( though we had been briefed that they would be about 50). Juan Carlos proved to be very safety conscious and we appreciated the leisurely pace of both dives. The caverns are beautiful and the crystal clear water set a new visibility standard for us. Between dives we had delicious sandwiches with hot peppers and were provided with water and soft drinks. We asked if he could take us out again and this time went to Chikin-Ha, which was even more beautiful and had an amazing halocline with intruding seawater below and fresh water above. Again we were treated to a private dive with limo service from the hotel. We both had ear problems because of the numerous depth changes required in the route and decided not to do the second dive. Instead of taking us back Juan Carlos offered to show us around the area, going for a dip at a secluded beach and sightseeing in Playa del Carmen and Puerta Aventuras. We left the hotel at 7am and returned at 4pm and Juan Carlos was never in a hurry even though he was teaching a PADI class that evening. Throughout both days he was gracious, charming and friendly and we never felt like customers but more like friends spending the day together. He does not take credit cards but will take dollars or pesos or, in our case, a combination of both currencies.
