Comments Simone was our dive guide and boat manager. He was fantastic. I asked to be placed on a boat with other advanced divers. When he asked me where I wanted to go, I responded "take me to where you would want to dive if you had only 1 day to do the best diving on Cozumel". So, with just 2 other divers, on a boat that was large, solid, had plenty of shade, fresh water, all needed safety gear, we headed to Punta Sur for our first dive. We did all 4 deep water swim throughs including Devil's Throat on that first magnificent dive. As soon as we entered the water we were greeted my 2 Reef sharks, and 5 black tips. The corals were brilliant, vibrant, and the best I have seen in the area for a long time. I was amazed at how healthy the reef looked, including the swim throughs which can easily get damaged by careless/unskilled or too many divers. Not here though! The tropical fish were numerous, and the Gray and French Angels were larger than I am used to seeing in other locations. We had a nice visit with many Hawksbill turtles, and one good sized male Loggerhead turtle. Simone let us use every minute of our NDL's, and it was one of the best and most memorable dives I have ever had. We then were served a delicious, fresh, made on the boat meal. Great freshly cut turkey, and cheese, with vegetables, salsa and guacamole to make sandwiches on bakery fresh rolls. There was also freshly sliced pineapple, mango and cantelope, as well as cookies, and chips. The boat then docked at a pier on the southwest side of Cozumel along a gorgeous stretch of beach for us to rest, walk the beach and blow off our Nitrogen. Following an appropriate surface interval we motored over to the Palancar reef system for a 70 minute drift dive. Again, the corals, tropicals were beyond my expectations. I used to think you had to head to the remote areas of the Coral Triangle to see such healthy reefs, but Simone has changed my mind. I think I am going to return to Cozumel and Advanced Divers on the good ship Careyitos, rather than my planned trip to Fiji!!
