Comments Options abound for dive operators in Cozumel, from the personal and concierge to the larger tourist boat with 50+ divers. Dive House operated a number of boats from the Secret Resort dock each day. They had a representative on the dock to greet divers, coordinate with the boats, and handle paperwork, as well as any last minute changes. This was excellent. The quality of the boat was less so. While our group was pleased to have our own boat, we never received a safety briefing and who knows if there was oxygen on board, for example. The briefings were fine, the dive masters were excellent underwater (managing newbies and ensuring experienced divers had fun too). The assistance back on to the boat was not always great - that seemed to be a personnel issue, not indicative of the crew overall. The boat captain always found us quickly after we surfaced from the drift.

The folks at Dive House wash and dry your gear every day. Miraculously, everything came back smelling great and in the correct bag each morning. HOWEVER, on the morning of my flight, I was handed back a gear bag filled with a wet wetsuit and a BCD that still had water in it. I was told that there was no sun, but honestly, my gear would have dried quicker in my own room. I regretted giving it back to the dive shop on the last day. Lesson learned - just rinse and dry it yourself in the room.

The rental gear didn't look great - BCDs without weight pockets, etc. Bring your own, if you can.

Secrets is a nice, reliable, resort. It's also spread out and well designed, so you don't feel trapped like some of the other resorts closer to town. The upgrade to preferred rooms is worth it. There's a large variety of restaurants, so you can eat something different each night. The Mexican restaurant at the resort next door (included in the all-inclusive) was excellent. The lunch service was spotty and at times painful - room service was included so i often ordered that to spare myself hours at the table.
