Comments By now, all of you probably think I work for Dive Palancar, but I do not. DP is now headquartered at the Grand Occidental but I prefer to stay at the Allegro with its more laid-back attitude. Doesn't hurt to have an Allegro Vacation Club membership, by the end of the year I will have spent 15 weeks in beautiful Cozumel, where I am known by my Mayan nickname Chichibe. I'll do over 100 dives here this year, and I am writing you from the island right now (November 2012).
DP does its best to be the best. They've been here going on 20 years, and their DMs have lots of experience. Turtles on most dives, spotted eagle rays, big groupers, small critters--it's all here. The reefs have amazingly recovered from the travesty that was Wilma and before that, Gilbert. I shoot video underwater, my vids soon to be available on iTunes as virtual aquarium screensavers. If you're coming to the Allegro be sure to book with DP as opposed to the on-site dive operator if you prefer the Mexican/Mayan experience--the Allegro's on-site operator is a training site for new instructors who are rotated in every 6 months from Spain, Germany, the UK etc. NOT the ultimate Cozumel experience--too many rules, lots of regulation (zey are German-owned und ve do tings in a regulated manner)--stick with DP. I'll be down here for a month in Feb, all of June, all of September and a month in November/December 2013--c'mon down and let's go diving! Tell 'em Chichibe sent you!
