Comments This was my second trip of 2017, and usually by this time it would have been my third, except I passed on my usual February/March trip this year because the Allegro is packed with Quebec-ies who are not pleasant to be with on vacation. Little did I know they would be replaced by obnoxious domestic guests with their hordes of whining children and their demanding superior attitudes toward the excellent Allegro staff both in April/June and in August/September. This is new policy by the new owners, Barcelo, who seem to have designated the once-fine Allegro as their bargain-basement property for low-class domestics who put their kids in diapers in the pools not designated for children (Yuck) and think nothing of allowing their young sons to let fly into the pool standing on the edge. Thank goodness I am a Vacation Club member with a First Club room near the First Club lounge and don't have much exposure to this very rude behavior.
As usual, Dive Palancar did a great job of picking me up for my two-tank morning dives and getting me back by around 12:30. The reefs aren't getting any better--not many fish, few turtles, few sharks, drab coral, lots of algae, murky visibility and very warm water--up to 89 F. Overcast most days, a couple of days with heavy downpours all day long. I book a long time there (5 weeks) so I can pick and choose my dive days and only did 32 dives this trip with camera in the water only about 20 times. I shoot ambient light HD video and am starting to think I've just about shot everything worth lensing in the past 6 years of shooting here. Mucho cloudiness these days! There are no all-day Sun days anymore. But it is relatively inexpensive to stay here all-inclusive (thanks for the Macallan 12 year, Karina!). Maybe I'm slowing down? Perhaps a been there, done that situation now? I'm supposed to be back mid-November, but am thinking about passing on that trip to repair my water damage to my home from Irma. Overall a disappointing trip.
