Comments The last time I'd been to Cozumel before my May 2017 trip was in December'16 when I wrapped up 40 weeks of time down there spread out over 8 trips in '15 and '16. Lots of changes, in only 6 months, the visibility was radically reduced, fish and sea life down by at least 75%, lots of algae, soft corals once brilliantly yellow now a drab shade of gray, and all colors of sponges muted. I live to shoot hi-def ambient light u/w video, but gray cloudy skies on an almost daily basis took my joy away.
Dive Palancar did their usual great job of picking me up from the Allegro's pier on time for my morning dives.
The Allegro's new owners, Barcelo, decided to fill up space in low season with trashy locals and their hundreds of whining children, at prices far lower than non-Mexicans pay. Not a great scenario. I had booked 8 weeks for this trip, but went home 3 weeks early, because of the hotel policy and the rather crummy diving.
