Comments Hotel Brisas is a good 3 star hotel. Beds were firm but to my liking. The airconditioning kept the room cool, but not totally dehumidified. The staff is friendly but not overly so. I believe that the staff would have been more courteous if I could have spoken the language. The food (all inclusive) was good, but my spouse did not care much for the dinner menues.

The pay phones in the hotel lobby advertise using a credit card at only $1.25 per minute to call the "States." Don't believe it!! There is a $35.00 minimum to use a credit card. Hotel staff even confirmed that the cost was only per minute, so they don't even know about the minimum charge. Protesting to the phone company after you receive your bill will get you a 40% discount, but that hardly makes the calls reasonable.

Dive Paradise is a good dive operation. The boats were clean and well maintained. However, there is a diverse assortment ranging from small to large. We seemed to get a different boat each of our six dive days. Briefings were good and safety procedures were emphasized. Dives were timed and depth regulated, but by being the first in and last out, we were able to get close to max "computer time." They will take you to C-53 if you want. The dive masters get a little sly grin when asked to go there, I am sure they wonder why we "Amaricanos" want to dive a wreck when there are such great reefs! However, C-53 really is a nice dive, as it is penetratable even for us non-cavers. The night dive was well conducted, and we waited on the boat until it was good and dark. Plenty of night life was out, and our dive master was good at finding lots of critters.
