Comments Diving with Eric (www.divingcozumelwitheric.com) was the best I have ever experienced in many trips to Cozumel.

Eric is an independent operator that has close relationships with various dive operations in Cozumel. I took my 18-year old for her first dive trip in 11/08, and Eric catered to both of us with exceptional, personal service at a rate less than most of the dive operations on Coz.

He was the best guide I've ever had in Cozumel in pointing out the fish and every other living thing on the reef. It was my best Cozumel dive experience - ever.

We were always on small fast boats with less than 6 divers, plenty of food and water, and Eric even took care of our equipment. Everything was rinsed, dried, and hauled to the boat for our next day of diving.

I'd never been diving in Cozumel at this time of year. I was surprised to experience strong currents (at about 50'-40' depth) pulling us toward the surface. My daughter used a lot of air just trying to stay down - in those up-currents, buoyancy control was not even a strategy. Eric was right there, coaching her with hand signals and even hands-on help.

Accommodations: SKIP the CASA MEXICANA. After several visits to Coz staying in the Southern resorts and being less than thrilled, I thought I'd try an in-town hotel. It's clean, new, and shiny, but that's about it. The "pool bar" was abandoned by the "bartender" after about 6 PM. In fact, the whole place was like a mausoleum. No fun here. The breakfast buffet was mediocre. The fruit was always hard, unripened pineapple or some other unidentifiable specimen. The cooktops were always just firing up as we needed to get to our boat (8:00-8:30). The couple of times we were able to get hot breakfast made us decide to just go for the granola bars on the dive boat for the remainder of our trip. It was "free," also, but way better. The housekeeping staff was great, though. Our room was just as clean and shiny returning from the days' adventures as when we arrived. I tipped the housekeeper more than anyone at the hotel. The ocean-view balcony was nice for relaxing (and hanging wet swimsuits).
