Comments [None]The on site diving at Hotel Barracuda was good; dive shop had spare BCD when my inflator seat leaked air into the inflator; and they had a spare hose to fit my regulator. The welcome tank before the boat dives prevent problems way out ar Palancar gardens.
The DM was Julio, who was very good: he found a large shark; scrubed my mask so that I could see clearly ( wo/ being asked); also, he added 4 lbs. to my BCD since all BCDs are not equal. Of course, he got a huge tip.
A Texan diver used 3 wersuits(thin) since the ocean was cold at 27 deg. C. It was even cold when I used a 2 mil vest under my 3mil wersuit.
Of course, drift diving was easy.
The COVID-19 really decreased the crowds at airports, jets and cozumel town and resorts.
Lastly, the hotel dive operation even under cut Dive Paradise by $2 for 2 tank boat dives.

Were the items (BCD and regulator) that failed your personal gear? If so, when was the last time you had them serviced? If you had been on a liveaboard, there might not have been any spares. One trip, a dork who claimed he was a DM brought his own BCSD, with hose held on to BCD with duct tape! Of course, it blew on the first dive.

yes, those were my personal gear. My regulator was serviced the week before. The air two regulator non my BC was not serviced; but, no leak upon infating mt scuba pro BCD.

I've had a failure with my own gear when used the first time after being serviced. Blown hose at 30 feet sounded like a depth charge going off. Took a few panicked seconds to get DM's attention, use her backup and surface safely. Sometimes dive shops haven't checked gear regularly (particular regs). Glad you were OK>
