Comments The best thing about Cozumel is that it's one time zone and a few hours away from our home. This was our first trip back in about 15 years, and perhaps we're spoiled, but I don't see what all the hype is about. While it's not fair to compare Cozumel, or for that matter, anywhere in the Caribbean to Pacific or Indian Ocean diving, there are other places in the Caribbean we prefer--Saba and the Caymans come to mind.

That having been said, we dove with Liquid Blue and thought they did an outstanding job. Steve and Kami were personable, helpful, and professional. We were with another couple and most of the time it was just the four of us on the boat. Hector, the dive master, was just great as well--very safety conscious and lots of fun. Javier, our boat driver, was always there when we surfaced.

The first day we arrived Steve came to our condo and took all our dive gear with him. It was all set up on his boat the next day. The boat picked us up at a pier across the street from our condo, but after the first day the guards there would not allow the boat to dock because we weren't staying at the resort associated with the pier. We had a car and drove 5 minutes to the marina. We never had to carry any of our gear; it was rinsed and ready for us the next day. After our last dives, Steve brought everything back to us cleaned and ready to pack.

The women dove with steel 100's, and the guys with steel 120's. They took some getting used to, but just fine after the first dive. We chose not to dive nitrox, as we were only doing two dives a day, but in retrospect, given the large amount of bottom time, we'd probably go with nitrox.

We had a few really nice dives, but in general we were not impressed with the diving. We spent some time with a friendly nurse shark, saw some huge lobsters out of their holes, and had lots of fun in Devil's Throat. There were lots of turtles, only a couple of eagle rays, and a fair amount of tropical fish. We only had really strong currents on one dive.

Steve and Kami were very accommodating. They talked to us about what we wanted to do, where we wanted to go, and did everything they could to make our diving with them pleasurable. Lots of snacks and fruit on the boat, as well as fresh towels and warm jackets. They and Hector had some great recommendations for dinner and things to do. All in all, an outstanding operation.

(Note that I dove with a 5 mil suit. But I get really cold; others dove with 3 mils or just shorts.)

Enforced diving restrictions Had to all surface together. Would have preferred to dive on our own and have boat pick us up on the drift. But that's Cozumel.
