Comments This was our third time diving with Jeremy and the Living Underwater crew and staying at the Blue Angel Resort (formerly the Caribe Blu). Jeremy's dive operation continues to be top-notch. We had 13 dives in six days and averaged 66 minutes a dive, thanks to the larger steel tanks, Nitrox, and Jeremy's divemaster skills. Jeremy's "fast" boat picks up early, before 8 am, and gets to the dive sites before most other operators. Dive site selection is left up to the divers (never more than 8), weather permitting, and Jeremy leads the dives at a slow pace, taking time to search for and point out interesting marine life. We also enjoyed a night dive. Living Underwater is true valet diving and makes diving in beautiful Cozumel effortless.

As reported in previous reports, new owners have taken over Caribe Blu and the Blue Angel dive operation. Now both are known as the Blue Angel Resort. We didn't dive with the house operation but it seemed OK particularly for divers wanting to take advantage of good diving/lodging package rates. The hotel side definitely has been upgraded. The rooms are pretty much the same: simple and functional, kept immaculate. However, the common areas, lobby, pool, grounds all show great improvements. Free wireless (a bit spotty and sometimes slow) is available. The restaurant, located over the dive shop (right next to the hotel), is now larger and has greatly expanded hours. Full breakfast is included in the room rate and service starts around 6:30 am. Closing is around 10:30 pm. We were able to get a light meal and drinks after a night dive. Service is much improved and very friendly. We will continue to stay here because of the improvements, close location to town, and beautiful water views from the rooms.

Our trip began just as the cruise ships were returning after the flu scare. Some readers complain about the hordes of cruise ship passengers ruining Cozumel. However, we don't feel their impact since we stay at a hotel about 1.5 miles south of town, dive with an operator who avoids the cruise ship diver business, and mostly eat dinner at great restaurants somewhat off the beaten path (La Perlita, Las Tortugas, Especias).
