Comments I dive for 52 years. This month, my young wife and I went to Playa del Carmen for her to discover snorkling and diving. I was not expecting much and I was not desapointed. We stayed at the Mahekal Beach Resort. It used to be a very nice place but it is falling apart. No hot water for 2 days, no fitness center open, the main restaurant is closed for leaking roof... The diving club of the hotel is obscessed about safety. My wife cannot taste scuba diving as she has no medical document.
I made 4 dives with them. 3 were miserable, one was OK: Barracuda.
I was told that it was a current dive. So, when we are to go under water, I duck and aim toward the bottom fast, 70 feet. The guide and the 2 others are still close to the surface, vertical doing "controlled descent". Even taking pictures at the bottom, I am bored.
Where are "les plongee d'antan"?
Go to Cozumel. The first time I was there was 40 years ago. It was great. It was very good 30 and 20 years ago. 10 years ago, I got bored: more diver than fish! It was after the storm. It was still a lot better than Playa del Carmen!
Diving in FL next month (my wife is due to get certified) and Maui in January for real fun.
