Comments 100% improvement compared to my last dive trip to Cozumel. We took advantage of a “special” at Scuba Club-- which we knew would not be luxurious, but had good reviews on the dive operation. Our last trip in was in June, and this time in May we had a bit less current and a dramatically better dive operation.

Although the southernmost hotel operations offer much shorter trips to the dive sites, they also isolate you from the town, unless you have a rental vehicle and want to drive 30 minutes plus to get to San Miguel. The town has many restaurants offering great food and drinks. Personally I enjoy exploring new places, and staying away from the larger resorts.

We had breakfast and lunch included in our hotel bill, but ate all dinners “out.” Scuba Club is an easy walk into town, although we did taxi a few times due to the rather dramatic and sudden rainstorms passing through.

My biggest complaint about Scuba Club is there is really no bar scene. We are used to staying at Dive ops where divers get together and discuss the day’s events over a cocktail in the afternoon or evening, but everyone vanished at Scuba Club after lunch, and again after dinner, back to their rooms. That said, we did meet some new friends from Arizona and NorCal. As usual the average age was over 50 but there were a few teens diving.

Dive Masters were all competent and gave good briefings. Boats were roomy enough and every group of six or fewer divers had one DM assigned. Boats are assigned in the morning, we were switched a few times. If you wandered off to dive your own profile, the boat would pick you up in a few minutes, no matter where you surfaced. Larger tanks are provided to those who needed more air.
You do need to carry all your gear (minus tanks) out to the boat in the morning, so a mesh dive bag is a must. We had a few dives with no current and most with medium current. There is almost always some current, this is drift diving.

Rooms were clean, serviceable, equipped with refrigerators, and made up daily with fresh towels etc. We will return, but likely bring a group of divers with us.
