Comments We have gone to Scuba Club Cozumel for the last 25 years, since it was Galapago Inn. It is not the fanciest resort but the dive operation is well run, the boats are good, the food is good, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Most of the staff has been there as long as we have been coming. The bar and restaurant have been remodeled in the last couple of years.

This year there were several large groups at the resort and the room next to us was party central on our shared front porch. Sleep was difficult before 11 p.m. A fault of rude and obnoxious divers, not the resort. After a couple of days the resort moved us to a quieter room.

The diving was the usual Cozumel. The reefs are good, but not up to the standards of the South Pacific. Lots of smaller fish, but not many larger ones. A fair number of nurse sharks and turtles and a few Eagle rays. This year we only saw two Lionfish, five years ago we saw dozens, so something is eradicating them. The divemasters made an effort to find smaller critters for macro photography. On some of the reefs the coral looked pretty beat up while others it looked good. If you can get them to take you to Columbia Shallows, there is some great coral. It was very rainy the first couple of days which affected the visibility. The ocean was flat the whole two weeks we were there and the current was slower than in the past.

We have been to SCC close to 20 times. The main reason we keep returning is that it represents a great value for the amount spent. We also go to other parts of the world and while many locations provide better diving, they also cost a lot more and involve more travel time and expense.

Enforced diving restrictions We were given a max depth and bottom time. The bottom time was not strictly enforced, but if you violated the max depth by much the divemaster would come get you. We usually told the divemaster what our bottom time would be and he was good with that.
