Comments This was my first time back in Cozumel in 35 years! Enough readers have dived Cozumel that most of what I say regarding what happens underwater has already been said. I will suggest that most dives there are drift dives so if you are new to scuba or with someone new, keep that in mind. The outfitters have it down but do be sure you have a safety sausage for emergencies. Also, it is becoming a sponge dominated system with fewer and fewer corrals. With that in mind, it is one of the most convenient and least expensive sites in the Caribbean for most Americans.

At Scuba Club Cozumel, the hotel/restaurant and dive operations are separate entities. I’ll start with the hotel.

Scuba Club Cozumel’s rooms are fine, and most, if not all, have porches that are great for drying dive gear. Rooms are well appointed and air conditioned, which is a necessity for sleeping most of the year. When I was there in November of 2022 the restaurant only served breakfast and lunch and they were included with the rooms. Breakfast was a buffet and lunch were either the daily special with meat and vegetarian options, or you could order off the menu. If found the food quite good.

The dive operation was well run. If you sign up for Nitrox, $10 a tank extra, you step into the classroom where the gas mixture is tested and tanks are assigned to everyone, in the morning prior to your first dive.

Our Divemaster for the week was Tony and we were motored to the dive sites all week on the Scuba II. The Scuba II is the smallest, and slowest boat in their fleet but held at most eight divers. I found the small group size beneficial when gearing up and under water.

The dive shop was able to accomplish small repairs quickly. However, one of our party had a problem with her BC. Eventually they were able to apply a temporarily repair, but in the meantime, she used one of their rental BC. They failed to provide her with a weight belt, so she stored her weights in the pockets of the BC. The pocket had a large hole and she lost some of her weights on a dive. Tony came to the rescue and loaned her his weight belt for the next dive and before we returned to the dock.

All in all, it’s a very good operation but and I’ll likely return but I would be wary of renting any gear. If necessary, check it thoroughly before you leave the dive shop.

I have stayed there multiple times. Even saw an 4' eagle ray on a night snorkel right off the "beach" 5 ft. from us. They need to have more 2# trim weights though as when come at off days they can be all gone already. They were clsod during Sept. '22 so I stayed doth the way at an all inclusive Secrets Aura (pricier obviously though) Chasing off premise now can be a hassle for supper but Blue angel is nice down the way within several minutes of walking (15) I like the fact I can walk into town w/o a taxi. (After cruise ships leave) Night dives may be tougher to arrange as less comardaery if no supper groupings to talk others into going out bext day or whenever. Suppers were half the fun to meet and greet others from all over. I'd like to see them supply those again. Great diving in area.
