Comments El Presidente recently underwent a remodeling. Accommodations are very nice and hotel service is excellent. Several excellent restaurants, buffets and bars on site. Nice pool. Rather nice beach with the possibility of beach diving and snorkeling, which is sometimes hard to find in Cozumel. You can do it as an all inclusive. The package we had included buffet breakfast and daily lunch with dinner every other night due to plans to go off site (down town) for dinner other nights. Can honestly say this is one of the top 2-3 hotels (or the top) in Cozumel at this time as I've been to all the others within the last 2 years. Great place for non-divers in the family who can enjoy the pool, beach and food while the diver in the family is out chasing fish.
Dive operator on site is Scuba Du, a large and well run operator who has been in business for many years. Their history over several decades of operation has been excellent. They have an office at the hotel pier. Rental equipment appears new. Experienced instructors are available for those who need them. We experienced several sizes of dive boats during the week we were there, ranging in size from the classic Cozumel 6-pack to those large enough for 12-15 divers. If you have experience with another Cozumel dive operation, and you can stay at the El Presidente that other operator who will pick you up at the hotel.
Saw several turtles while diving. Cozumel has had a well run turtle hatching project for years and that seems to be working (not part of the hotel). You can donate some $ and get involved in assisting turtle hatchlings. This is seasonal, and requires searching the east coast of the with a guide, looking for a hatching at night, If successful in finding one, you help them get into the sea.
Lots of medium sized schools of typical Caribbean reef fish but not big many Pelagic species were seen. Rays (eagle rays and sting rays) are seasonal and you are there from the fall into the early spring you will see more. Was not hard to find octopus. Lots of lobsters and channel crabs.
