Comments This was about my 15th visit to Cozumel since I first starting visiting the island in 1990. Yes things have changed both under sea and top side over the years, but this is true all over the Caribbean. Hurricanes have beaten up the coral nearer to shore, but they are coming back. More hotels and a massive influx of cruse ship tourism has brought thousands of people to all the islands. But Cozumel continues to hold for me first place with regard to all that I value in an excellent dive vacation. Most important is a selection of differing dive sites. As readers of Undercurrents are aware not every location in the Caribbean offers an extraordinarily diverse under sea geography, within an easy boat ride from a dive operators pier, as does Cozumel. Secondly, the chance to see in abundance, a range of both usual reef fish, and unexpected visitors. Third, a dive operation, Scuba Du, with a record of excellent service, and knowledgeable, very friendly staff people. And lastly a dive resort, Presidente, of unsurpassed beauty and superlative service. Do I sound like a paid representative? Well I am not. I have visited other resorts and I have dived with at least four other dive operators on the island. No other dive operator, I have used, is as thorough in its pre dive preparations, as helpful to new divers, has good up to date equipment, is attentive to older divers and offers more experienced divers additional dive options beyond the programed schedule. If you stay at the Presidente diving with Scuba Du could not be easier. Your gear is waiting for you at the pier. If you want, it will be set up for you. If you want 100's rather than 80's, they are available as is nitrox. After the dive your gear is taken to the storage area where it is washed, dried and ready for the next days diving. This is a far cry from an experience I once had diving in Barbados. I had to carry my gear, all of it, tanks weights BCD fins mask camera, etc, out to a boat that was bouncing in the surf. If you have done it you know how challenging that can be. So in short Scuba Du does the whole thing better than its competition. A short word now about the resort. The Intercontinental Presidente is in my experience the finest hotel on the Island. It is not an all inclusive, and it is one of the most expensive resorts. But you get a setting that is beautiful, and excellent service for all your needs. You will probably not take many dive vacations every year, this then is the time to really get some thing for your money.

UW Photo Comments Each boat has a dedicated bucket for camera equipment and one for face masks. There are no tables or raised flat surfaces for assembling or working with photographic equipment. I always had everything I needed ready before I got on the boat. The staff on the boat was helpful as divers were emerging from the water after a dive by offering to first take photographic equipment from divers before they negotiated the ladders.
