Comments My wife's idiot husband was looking at the wrong month on the calendar when he made the dive reservations with Living Underwater so when we arrived Jeremy had given the guys Sunday off and we were compelled to try Scuba Du for a day.
The dive shop is now conveniently located next to the main restaurant. But when we asked if there was room on the boat for Sunday we were told they were full, and to check back later. They also offered us shore diving, but that didn't well, float our boat.
So we were pleased when we checked back at 6:00 that there had been a cancellation and and we were scheduled for the small boat, "Let It Be." Also we were the only ones on the boat.
Next day we arrived at 07:45 but had to wait until a late arriving Mexican family of four joined us. The parents and two young boys would be diving.
So we rigged into the AL 80's and back rolled into the flat warm water as a group of seven but quickly split up as my partner and I descended below the newbies and checked out the wall and swim throughs on our own. Eventually the family ran low on air and we rejoined the DM and continued on our own.
Back on the boat we were provided with water and fruit.
For the second dive we went to Paradise Reef where we could have swum to the hotel. A patch reef, it was remarkably free of algae and full of juvenile reef fish and a prefect second dive for our new Mexican friends.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, and we really appreciated that they schlepped our gear from the room to the dock. After we spent the rest of the week with Living Underwater, they still schlepped it from the dock back to the room. We were glad we avoided the big cattle boat, but that was more by luck than forethought. Overall an adequate substitute, but we missed Jeremy’s big tanks and tasty pastries.
The cost was $110 for two tanks and were told that if we paid peso or credit card, there would be a service charge so we paid in American bucks.
If you're staying at the El Presidente and want to dive with your kids without going deep or having to worry about difficult sites, Scuba Du could be right for you.
