Comments Diving the fresh water Cenotes should be on every serious divers bucket list. These are NOT caves but cenotes. Guides are required and there are typically entrance fees and probably a camera fee depending on the size of your rig or the mood of the attendant working that day.

Each Cenote is unique so do a sampler. Think shafts of light, stalagmites, stalactites , hydrogen sulfide layers, interesting fresh water critters in the larger open areas.

They keep group sizes per Dive Master to a minimum ( 4 to 1) and you will follow the Rule of Thirds for gas consumption. I had one guide my whole trip which was nice especially since I was shooting video. Water temp can be a bit nippy I wore a 5 mm and my guide used a drysuit so keep that in mind.
