Comments We have been diving with this dive shop since 2008 and still love it. Coming here, I'm home.
The shop is about a 8 minute walk from Dreams puerto aventuras, or about 10 minutes from the Catalonia Yucatan (just next door).
From the dive shop it is about a 2 minute walk with you gear in their cart to the boat. Load up, and off you go. The reefs are just a 5-10 minute ride.
Going south from the marina gets you deeper with more dramatic canyons. Unfortunately over the years, the death of the coral in the shallower areas here, are heartbreaking. The fish are few and far between.
They take you here, as the deeper parts are nice, but a shorter dive.
Going north, gets you a multi-level dives, and not the dramatic canyons, more shallow finger formations.
Here the fish are more, but there we have noticed over the years the fish populations decreasing. Sport fishing is done here, and there is no catch and release, but catch as much as you can and sell the rest.
There still is plenty to see, and the fish populations are the best just outside the marina where the boats do not fish.
We love the dive shops for not being a cattle boat. Safety is stressed, and a dive brief is certainly brief.
Here they will let you dive your air. No coming up because someone blew through their air, or only a 45 minute dive and everyone up. Nope not here!
When the dive resort shop found out we were diving they asked why we don't dive with them. Hubby asked her if we could do a 70-75 minute dive. No, she say, maybe 60 minutes. Well, if I have to pay the same amount of money for diving....I am going to take the longer dives!!
It's a no brainer.
No touching is stressed, which is nice.
The boat crew has changed, and what a difference. The captain and 1st mate are friendly and so helpful. Nice.
We have gone to the Catalonia since 2008, but this year the Dreams was the better option money wise. Wow! We should have been going here sooner. Food was good, lots of a la carte options, friendly staff, clean, just an overall better experience. There is a very small beach at this resort...very small. The pools are smaller than the Catalonia also. But with diving almost everyday, it really wasn't a problem for us.
Finding lounge chairs by the beach after diving can be non existent at the Catalonia, but at the Dreams not a problem (we travel always at the same time, the first 2 weeks in November, off season for resorts and dive shop).
Great time.
