Comments I've been diving w/FF for two weeks every year since 2009. Nice crew; each boat takes a maximum of 6 divers, grouped by experience level (veteran down to newbies). I did 18 dives in 12 days, including two all-day trips to Niihau. I've seen just about everything in Hoover's books on Hawaiian sea life, and I was able to check off a few new (to me) sightings--juvenile psychedlic wrasse, juv. gold ring surgeon, juv. big eye emperor. At Niihau, saw Galapagos, grey, sand bar, oceanic white tip sharks and several large monk seals. The regular am and pm two-tank trips go to sites within 15-20 minutes of the harbor, based on best visibility and/or customer requests. Nick, Anthony and Casey (the DMs I went with) really now where to find the cool stuff. Most stays, I stuck close to the DM, more or less in a flanking positionpointing out unusual things I saw on my side while constantly checking the DM to see if he/she had stopped to look for something in a hole or point out sharks, turtles, game fish. No, this isn't Fiji; you'll see mostly hard corals on lava flow, but lots of reef fingers and ledges to swim by/over. Definitely do Sheraton Caverns at least once. They book up fast, so be sure to call/email at least two weeks in advance for boat reservations. You will want a full wetsuit for protection against sea urchins and other unexpected encounters w/coral. The guides are eco-friendly and don't poke at octupus or eels. Wish I could say that about some photographers. Chips, water and soda provided onboard between dives.
