Comments We dove with Fathom Five and have mixed feelings about them.
If you get Brian (DM) and Charlie (captain) great. Brian takes his time with the briefings and then at the site. He looks for things and makes sure everyone sees it/them. He goes slowly around the reef, taking his time. Charlie as the captain is very helpful.
We then dove the same company but with different DM and captain and the difference was like night and day.
George the captain just can't do enough for you--great.
Debbie as DM, well that's where the problem was for us. She is very helpful, gives good dive briefs, talks about the critters you might see, BUT once down, the race begins.
The vis was down, so you had to stay pretty close to her, and she would point things out, but if you were last in the group, forget it, she was then off to something else. Want to watch cleaning stations, nope, she's off. Points out an octopus and then you want to watch it for a while, nope, she's off. Find a turtle, don't even think about that you are going to watch it feed, or sleep, nope, she's off again.
We talked to her after the first dive about going so fast. She nodded her head in agreement. So, 2nd dive....off she goes. It was like a race...I truely hated the dives. I take pictures, I love to watch the fish behavior, but not on these dives. The only time I could take my time was when we were back under the boat waiting for our air/computer to tell us when to go back on the boat. Then I could take my time and look at things.
I booked this company from the good things I read about them in trip advisor and searching other sites, and maybe they just got lucky and got Brian, or they like to zoom around under the water.
We had considered diving an extra day with them, but decided against it.

Terry, sorry about your experience. I've dived with FF 4 years in a row (and posted reports each time). Had Charles (DM) and Charlie on most dives.
