Comments While the diving in Kona and North Kohala is not as lush with sea life and coral as Maui or other places I have been, it is still a wonderful Pacific experience. Kohala Divers are a great operation, and full service. They kept and cleaned my gear daily and had it back on the boat for the next day at no charge. Nitrox available and reasonable price. Boat captain Steven was fantastic. did a simple repair on my regulator and freely shared info on equipment repair and brand differences. Robin is a wonderful dive guide and very flexible with profile if you are experienced. Michael was a new guide and very enthusiastic and also flexible on profile with experienced divers. I feel they took great care with the less experienced on the boat and carefully monitored gas consumption of the divers. I have dived Kona twice in past but with Jack's Dive Locker further south in Kona, and I can say that Kohala compares favorably with their experience and service. Another plus is the Shave Ice shop and Kohala burger and taco shop on the upper level of the dive shop strip center. Fantastic for a cheap delicious lunch after diving and an authentic Shave Ice experience ( suggest getting shave ice with a Snow Cap, awesome!!) If you are staying in North Kona (north of the Four Seasons) this is the closest and best dive operator in the region, I highly recommend them. The only negative was 2 divers on my first dive day who freely held onto coral and touched shells and sea life. As far as I could tell, nothing was said to them. Subsequent dives, a good lecture was given on not touching sea life etc.

Enforced diving restrictions Depth limits loosely enforced. Dive time depended on individual gas consumption. I was allowed to stay down longer and dive master Robin & Mike took me to a few hidden lava tubes after everyone else was out of gas and on surface. Really wonderful to have the flexibility to stay down and explore.
Liveaboard? no Nitrox Available? yes

UW Photo Comments separate tank for cameras and this is enforced. Divemaster and boat captain (Steven is awesome and very experienced) very attentive to photographers and pointing out small critters and moving slowly to allow photogs to snap pics. On surface my camera fell off my wrist before I snugged up the strap and divemaster Michael quickly saw the problem and dove down to rescue it before it hit bottom.
