Pre-dive waivers are on their website as a PDF(Dive Links, at the bottom right). Complete them and bring them with you. It will save you some time before your first dive.If you do Nitrox, they want you to test and label your tanks at the shop. Afternoon before for morning dives and morning before for afternoon dives. You have to check-in at the shop before the dives. They will take your personal gear to the boat, but it has to be in a dive bag. They have some bags available. Carry your valuables with you to the boat. Free parking in the morning at the municipal lot on Luakini St. The lot fills up by lunch time. Coffee and pastries upstairs at the shop in the morning. Very good coffee on the way to the boat at Old Lahaina Coffee Roasters(opens at 6am), which is in Lahaina Ice Cream Parlor. The trip to Lahaina from the airport is a little quicker. The new Lahaina bypass now brings you into town near the Safeway. Bring a flashlight for the Lanai dive swim throughs. DM Jules did a nice job finding interesting critters. Molokini inside site Aquarium, she found us a nice group of coral heads, with three different stages of Dascyllus on each one. Carthaginian was okay. White Tip reef shark in the engine hold. Mind the rudder. It swings back and forth with the surge. One of the Atlantas subs took a few laps around us, while we were on the wreck. Mala wharf was only 40' vis, but lots of turtles and schools of goat fish and high fin chub. Molokini; didn't see any Hammerheads. 2' swell leaving the Lahaina marina. The ride was okay until the last 20 minutes. Once we got past the Kapalua resorts, it was a 4 to 6 foot swell, with what seemed like a few 8 footers. It really wasn't too bad, but up and down with some rolls. They did and excellent job on entry and bring extra crew to help. Three lines of divers off the platform. Exit is one at a time on a drift line to the ladder. A DM in the water taking your fins and one at the ladder helping you off the ladder. They had the boat in a slightly sheltered spot; the ladder never came completely out of the water. Most of the dive time is open water, swimming. It was a leisurely pace, but you keep moving. The DM stayed at 55 feet, we stayed as a group, but you could be shallow or deeper. Molokini outside. Healthier coral. Saw a few sharks. Lots of tropicals. Mild current on our day. Maybe just one knot. Up and down surge, if you got close to the wall. |
