Comments This is one of many dive shops that does the Manta night dive on the Big Island. One of the other dive shops recommended them, and the operation was very professional. They do a single night dive. You board the boat around 5 pm, allowing lots of time for a very thorough briefing and setup before entering the water after sunset. There was a mixture of snorkelers and divers on board, but the snorkelers had separate briefings and experiences. The basic plan of the all the dive shopw is that you drop down, swim to a sand patch with lights, and wait with several other groups for the mantas. Our experience was better than that. After about 10 minutes and 1-2 mantas, our divemaster took us on a reef dive. We saw one shark, one octopus, and an eel fairly quickly. After about 15 minutes we returned to the main site where we remained for about 25 minutes. In total we saw about 10 mantas in a range of sizes. There were schools of fish in addition. This is one of those unique dives that is on every diver's bucket list.
