Comments Scuba Steve is very passionate about diving and it shows as he loves to dive and teach. His nickname is "Scooter" as he loves to ride his scooter underwater guiding you to some amazing out of the way locations you would never see otherwise! His teaching style is very positive as well and it shows as he gets a lot of repeat business.

I have scooter dove with Steve many times and the ability to visit small satellite reefs that are outside of the normal finning distance and too small for dive boats to visit are really cool. They remind me of small cities in the middle of sand deserts; like a "Mad Max" movie.

I highly recommend calling Scuba Steve at Maui Dive Connection for UW scooter tours and/or any PADI instruction you are interested in. He also has great connections for the best boat diving to Lanai and Molokai as well.

Enforced diving restrictions usually the limiting factor on scooter dives is whether or not you are doing 1 or 2 scooter dives as the battery life dictates dive time as well as air consumption which is typically less on a scooter than kicking.

UW Photo Comments Scuba Steve uses Apollo UW scooters that push instead of pull you so it makes it really easy to carry your camera on scooter trips. I have done it several times and found it really comfortable. The only difficulty is with a big UW camera rig, you get some drag and may have to fold in your strobe arms when traveling between reefs and cool points of interest. But this is a small price to pay for the ability to get to these obscure reefs and such that are outside of finning distance. Maui has lots of green sea turtles and Mala Pier is the place to capture great turtle close ups and Steve will gladly show you the best angles and spots to capture great turtle shots there. There is usually resident reef sharks hanging out there as well.
