Comments Used to dive Maui a lot with Ed Robinson Divers. When I went to schedule, found they now only offer shore dives…sold dive boat at beginning of pandemic. Tried Mike Severns but at end of July was totally booked thru September and didn’t have waitlist offered. Ended up with Maui Dreams…but wasn’t disappointed…they are good.

Caveat: I hate cattleboats, doing 95% of my diving with liveaboards or ops with 6-packs. But for a cattleboat, Maui Diamond II (Maui Dreams’ dive boat) is operated extraordinarily well. Went out three times with them and typical dive group was 6 divers / DM or larger with two DM’s. All levels of divers but grouped by experience. Safe, friendly operation that I highly recommend. BTW, only gave it 3 stars for $ value due to extremely (relative) high cost of diving in Hawaii —with ALL ops — not singling Maui Dreams specifically!

Did 2 (“advanced”= +$10 to cost) backwall of Molokini; 1 Molokini “backwall” (that wasn’t really…more to side where slopes down to accommodate newer divers I think) with second dive inside the crater but almost identical in enviro; then 3rd dive day with them was to Carthaginian wreck @96’. I typically avoid wrecks…prefer lots of sea life…and this dive reinforced my preference NOT to bother with wrecks. But 2nd dive at Mala was the best of the trip! Max 30’, it’s a collapsed pier in which lots of creatures reside. Saw sharks, turtles, eels, crabs, shrimps, nudis, loads of tropical fish including three kinds of trumpetfish, and a good sized frogfish, scowling at all the attention. 85 minutes of a photographer’s dream!

Overall big kudos to a great crew and smooth op…from captains to DM’s, everybody was very friendly, knowledgeable and supportive (of the newer divers onboard). Good overall safety briefing and proper predive briefings. And these people like to dive! Good vibe on each of my 3 dive days. Recommended!

UW Photo Comments Camara “island” about 3’ x 4’ in center of open deck area. No rinse buckets but hose available. Boat holds 18+ divers, camera area wouldn’t accommodate large group of photographers.
