Comments Unlike most reviewers I am a "baby diver". I went to Maui to take the PADI AOW class since where I live in San Diego is too cold. I had a goal to take the class since it is a requirement option for diving the Lindblad/Nat Geo cruises in French Polynesia. I have a reservation for May 2019 (thank you Mr. Yolo of Undercurrents for your recommendation).

I picked Maui Dreams based on reviews, which sometimes is a "crapshoot". I got lucky! As a solo diver (hubby won't do it)I new safety orientation and attentiveness was paramount for me.
I was welcomed into the Ohana immediately. All staff were friendly and greeted me by name. Not one person was snotty or disinterested in this beginner. I dove 15 dives over 7 days, most shore dives and 2 boat dives including a deep dive to Molokini Crater which had 100+ ft visibility. They respected my goals, listened to my experience (50+years surfing, snorkeling, sailing, marine biology coursework) and tailored the guided dives to me. Ratios were unbelievable. No group dive was more than 4:1 and several dives were just me and the divemaster. The course was the instructor, a divemaster and three students.

Shore dives are full of reef life. Water 74 F. vis 40-50 ft. Dove from sites with bathrooms and showers and short walk from parking to the beach, how civilized! Octopus popping its head above a rock then swimming away, nudibranchs galore, endemic reef butterfly fish, wrasse, surgeonfish, many eels and ulua jacks were seen. Of course, there were turtles on every dive and eagle rays. The highlight of diving was the sleeping whitetip in a lava cave and hovering at the bottom watching 3 Mantas feeding mouths and gills open making 'S' patterns a mere few feet above us. The boat dive to Molokini was also a Humpback Whale watching trip. We saw multiple mom and baby pairs, spouts, tail slaps, breaches, at close as legal range. Boat dive had morning muffins on the way out and sandwiches on the way back to the harbor. Pricing was very reasonable considering the liability they take on with students.

Maui Dreams has highly skilled in the water, technically proficient, safety and environmentally conscious, and personable dive masters, instructors and staff who welcome you, treat you well and have an attitude of providing a top notch experience. Dive masters made sure I had water on shore dives and one even had hot water to pour down the wetsuit before we swam out. I can not say how it would be for an expert diver, but their attitude tells me that they would provide an experience tailored to your abilities and goals. There are multiple dive sites on Maui that would provide a more seasoned diver a great experience including lava caves, wrecks and the back side wall of Molokini.

I came away with the number of dives required for my S. Pacific trip and the PADI AOW certification, which was my goal. But in addition, I left with memories of a great dive trip. I highly recommend Maui Dreams Dive, especially if you have a mix of levels of expertise in your group.
