Comments Gear is loaded and set up on boat at 6:15AM(because of potential afternoon trade winds) and car parked on site. Boat launched at 6:45 , 2 tank dive with 7 divers, returning at 10:30AM. Short ride to backside of Molokini crater. Gentle drift dive , max. depth 80' to "Edge of the World". Heard whales singing the entire dive! Jen, our guide, was knowledgable in finding critters. But while she and other divers were photographing a harlequin shrimp, it's coral habitat was displaced.by her to offer a better shot. She also aggressively coaxed out an octopus from its habitat.
We saw the usual triggers, tangs, butterfly fish. Our 2nd dive day was a 3 tanks. We confirmed that they forgot to load our gear from where they had stored it(after the other 2 tank dive day) and fortunately recovered it, but if we just assumed they put it onboard, we would have been delayed even further.Dave, our guide, took us down to depth of 130 ft. on "Shark Condo" which revealed white tip sharks, dragon wrasse, green lion fish, but not much else. Captain Joe kindle fulfilled our request to dive Perouse Bay, a last shallow dive of the day. We expected more fish around the pinnacle since it was a sanctuary, but it disappointed. While often swimming far ahead of group of 6 divers, Dave was very focused on his own photography. He even shooed away a diver while taking his own photo and revealed an octopus by removing its habitat. What more can I say? Divers were not warned against disturbing marine life. Although guides point out interesting critters, there won't be anything left with all this invasive activity.
