Comments [None]Went with Reef Pirates for 3 out of 5 days of diving on the South Shore of Oahu after reservation space was unavailable at another outfit in Kewalo Basin. This was a good thing. Using two operators, I was able to get a variety of sites in.
Reef Pirates run a very professional operation in a casual low stress way. The operation is out of the Koko Marina Center in Hawaii Kai, easy to find. Two boats are in use. I really appreciated that they operate on a 6 diver maximum. My dives were on a Monday through Wednesday with three dives Monday and Wednesday and two dives on Tuesday. Reef Pirates have a number of sites a short ride from the marina: Corsair Sea Caves Koko craters Fantasy Garden Little Barge and an LCU. My favorites were the Corsair and the Sea Caves. Turtles on every dive, a few sharks and eels. Visibility was good on a few dives, not so good on others. This was all due to current conditions. It is a given that South Coast Oahu is best during the winter, so we were all early for the best viewing. Our Guides through the three days were Joe and Stephanie. Really knowledgeable and very helpful. The groups I was in were all pretty experienced divers with the exception of one diver on one day who was either a beginner or just having a bad day. I really admired Stephanie's patience and personal attention to the diver. Recommend this outfit if you are diving in Oahu and do not want to have to travel too far from Honolulu. Try and save it for the winter when visibility improves.
